Project Overview

The UConn Gant Science Complex underwent a major 281,000-GSF renovation designed to modernize one of the university’s critical science and research environments.

As part of the renovation, SystemOne was contracted to provide new communications and technology infrastructure throughout the project, including structured cabling, fiber, telecommunications rooms, data center infrastructure and technology systems.

The Challenge

Renovating a large existing university facility presents a different set of challenges than new construction.

The technology infrastructure needed to be upgraded across a substantial existing footprint while coordinating new systems with the building’s existing conditions and the broader renovation schedule.

The project also required infrastructure supporting data rooms, fiber and copper backbone systems, wireless access points, security and audiovisual technology.

The SystemOne Solution

SystemOne installed new structured cabling infrastructure throughout the renovated facility, including copper and fiber backbone systems and telecommunications room buildouts.

The project also included infrastructure upgrades within the Aldo Data Center, including UPS-related work, ladder tray systems and grounding.

Additional Cat6A infrastructure supported wireless access points, security and audiovisual systems throughout the complex.

Testing, Training & Documentation

Technology infrastructure is only as valuable as its reliability and documentation.

SystemOne completed required system testing and provided training, labeling and project documentation to support UConn’s ongoing management of the facility.

The Result

Completed in January 2022, the Gant Science Complex renovation modernized the building’s technology infrastructure and provided a foundation for continued connectivity, research and collaboration.

The project demonstrates SystemOne’s experience delivering structured cabling and technology infrastructure within large-scale higher education renovation projects.
